Poetry is both a visual and an auditory art. This is why listening to poetry is never completely satisfying to the senses; we also need to see the poem on the page. Reading poetry, we see image and structure. Hearing poetry, we hear music and narrative. The art, complete. The senses, completely fulfilled.
